Yup I do have a rainy day fund in case something goes wrong. I try to spend very little too (very obsessed with paying off my debt and finances) but sometimes unexpected things happen (see my previous post on my finances) that messes up my financial trajectory and thats what my fund is there for.

On a side note - Leonardo Da Vinci and Isaac Newton were never married and never had children. But look at their legacies. =)

You pose difficult challenges to some of my philosophies, haha. For one thing, I agree that a person shouldn't have to wait until 65 to start reaping in the rewards of hard work, but I want a retirement fund just in case I do live out to be 65 or for when some huge disaster ruins my plans. Like you, the short time I believe I have compels me to take the risk and go for things I want, but I can't shake off the feeling of unforeseen troubles, so I try to spend very little and save a lot.

"Leaving behind a legacy" is something very few think about at an early age, and even fewer people accomplish it. I hope you achieve it, inasmuch that you've "rejected(?)" the usual way people go about in attaining this goal (no marriage, no children, not living long enough, lol).
